CABERNET SAUVIGNON, SACRASHE VINEYARD

In 1979, the three original owners (Sacri, Craig and Sherwin) took the first few letters of their last names and created "Sacrashe" Vineyard. It is situated high above Auberge du Soleil in the eastern Rutherford appellation at 750-800 feet elevation. The vineyard is hidden behind groves of century old oaks and clusters of manzanita brush. The growing conditions are tough due to rocks and tufa (solidified volcanic ash), limiting the vines' vigor and crop yields (1.8 tons per acre), but offering explosive flavors and concentration. A vineyard manager's nightmare turns into a winemaker's dream, as the small berries are loaded with intense flavors and tannin, ultimately producing our most extravagant Cabernet.

2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, Sacrashe Vineyard $100

Typically the most glorious Cabernet lot in our cellar, the 2004 Sacrashe once again exceeds our expectations. In usual 2004 Delectus fashion, we encourage you to consume this vintage sooner rather than later, due to the high alcohol level; aging should not extend beyond 2012. The 2004 vintage produced only 125 cases, about half of what we normally produce.

Tasting Notes
Pure seduction. The nose opens with mocha, cocoa powder, blackberry yogurt, cedar box and dark chocolate covered cherries. The mouth is full and round, nicely structured with soft tannins and an enchanting finish. This wine needs time to breath and benefits from decanting. Captivating! (02/08).

2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, Sacrashe Vineyard
96 Pts - Wine Spectator
"Exceptional purity of fruit. This gushes with rich, plush currant, black cherry and blackberry fruit. The tannins are ripe and fleshy and there's a pretty dash of toasty vanilla and chocolaty oak that folds in on the finish. Seamless from start to end, with a deep, multi-faceted concentration of flavors. Best from 2006 through 2012." (May 31, 2005)
